Maybe there's no British comedy funny enough to bother commenting on,
personally I struggle to be amused by recent output.

After watching 'Simon's House' on BBC2 I must agree with you. Much of
the output from all channels is simply dire. So many try to emulate US
comedy series such as Friends which I've never considered funny, their
humour is so unlike ours. I was amazed at the apparent success of
Ricky Gervase whom I first saw as a standup on the 11 O'clok show on
Channel Four many years ago. He, along with the aforementioned Simon
Anston?, Russell Brand, Jonathan Ross, and many of those that pass for
'young' new comedy, appear to have a level of humour usually heard and
seen in secondary schools. I do enjoy a good number of 'new' comedy,
such as 'Ideal' and 'Two Pints..' but few can match the less juvenile
ones such as 'Not Going Out'and 'My Family' to name but two. The new
'Her & Him' (if I've got it the right way round) looks promising.
These days I mainly watch satire, a form of comedy this country
excells in. HIGNFY, MTW, 8-10 Cats are the peak of British wit IMHO.
